About Us
I created Karma Baby while I was finishing my master's degree in Transpersonal Psychology at Naropa University. I wrote my thesis on, and later specialized in, helping children who were not able to bond with their mothers after birth. The psychological effects of missing this experience are severe: the inability to create loving relationships later in life, lowered intelligence, poor self-esteem, etc... Knowing how influential those first few years could be on the health and happiness of a child, I decided to stay at home with my new baby boy, Elijah.
I had studied traditional cultures extensively and knew that baby carriers have been used for thousands of years. I felt that keeping my baby close was one of the most important things I could do, so I bought up all the carriers I saw in popular stores. What we found was that there was too much padding, too many straps, and not enough style. We wanted something simple, stylish, and something that would keep our baby close to our hearts. Thus, the Karma Baby Carrier was born.
Since then, we have helped thousands of parents attach better to their babies by teaching about the benefits of babywearing and by distributing our carriers.
